$5,000 grant, awarded by Optimum Lightpath, will be used to fund school's new educational 3D program.

was among 11 Long Island schools awarded a  Transforming Education with Technology grant from Optimum Lightpath.

The school was given a $5,000 grant, which will be used to fund its Letters Alive augmented reality program for K-2 students. The program is aimed at increasing word-building, sentence building, and vocabulary and comprehension abilities through the use of interactive 3D cards that teach students about animals. The virtual cards will be used alongside a document camera, projector, interactive white board and specialized computer software which will help students to prepare and present research projects on the animals they studied.

The Transforming Education with Technology grant program was created to award $100,000 in grants to Long Island schools to fund technology-driven learning programs in the classroom. With 157 grant applicants, FJC was selected based on, "how it would use technology in innovative ways to enhance education."

The check was presented Wednesday at an education technology themed event held at Cablevision Headquarters in Bethpage.
