Shoreham Civic Talks Tesla Development

Civic plans to survey residents regarding property development.

Shoreham Civic President Bryan Lilly announced plans to survey residents in the area in order to gauge their thoughts on the development of the Tesla property.

Recent reports in Newsday (subscription required) confirmed that Rocky Point real estate developer Mark Baisch is interested in purchasing the property. According to the report, his plans are to develop apartments for seniors on 4.5 acres, then donate the rest to the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe, a nonprofit organization pushing to open the museum.

Civic members discussed issues with the property, including an ongoing investigation by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) regarding pollution. According to discussions civic members had with DEC representatives, they have found soil gas on the property in addition to other items found over the past few years, including asbestos.

The DEC is expected to wrap up its investigation of the property soon. Click here to watch the full video of the Jan. 11 Shoreham Civic meeting on civicmeetings.com.

This is how Jane Bonner concluded the Fate of this property...get ready because "The Fix Is In"....

"Among the higher-priority issues facing the Hamlets of Shoreham and
Wading River are the respective futures of the DeLalio Sod Farm and
Tesla property."

http://www.brookhaven.org/portals/0/documents/PELM/Final%20Visioning%20web.pdf (Page 62)

AND.......

"...some participants realized that limited commercial development could help
with ratables and help to moderate residential property taxes.

Participants envisioned a possible museum at the Tesla property –
sponsored by the Town of Brookhaven or a non-profit entity – and
would like to see the bus depot use (adjacent to the sod farm)
relocated and redeveloped. The intent of relocating the bus depot
would be to revitalize an existing parcel that is out of character with
the neighborhood with a more appropriate use, such as a community
center, and to improve air quality and traffic on 25A."
