Legislature Unanimously Designates July 10 as “Nikola Tesla Day”

Legislator Sarah Anker’s legislation to designate July 10 as a countywide  “Nikola Tesla Day” passed unanimously at the March 18 meeting of the General Legislature.  The first Nikola Tesla Day will take place on July 10, 2014.

For the past three years, the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe has successfully managed to educate the community about the work of renowned inventor Nikola Tesla, a man who received little recognition during his lifetime. Located in Shoreham, Tesla’s Wardenclyffe Laboratory is the single remaining laboratory where Nikola Tesla, the inventor of wireless technology, the alternating current electricity and neon lighting, conducted his research. Throughout 2012 and 2013, hundreds of volunteers united to clean the grounds of the former laboratory, with the goal of transforming the laboratory into a science museum.
