Maria Basile, MD, Installed as President of Suffolk County Medical Society
Maria Basile, MD, of East Setauket, Assistant Vice President of Medical Affairs at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, was installed as President of the Suffolk County Medical Society (SCMS) at the group’s annual meeting May 30. The SCMS is the professional medical association for Suffolk County physicians.
Dr. Basile, a colorectal surgeon, supports new clinical quality and patient safety initiatives at Mather Hospital. She is also a clinical assistant professor at Stony Brook University School of Medicine.
Dr. Basile joined Mather in January 2011 and served as Clinical Information System Physician Advisor in the Office of the Chief Medical Information Officer. She worked with physicians on the design and implementation of the hospital’s electronic medical records system and led the effort to develop matherdoc.org, a physician-oriented hospital website.

From 2006-2013, Dr. Basile operated North Country Colorectal Surgery, P.C., a solo, private practice in colon and rectal surgery with attending privileges at Mather and St. Charles Hospitals.
