Rocky Point Teen Killed in Early Morning Car Crash

Three teens were passengers in a car driven by Ulices Canessa Villatoro, 19, when Suffolk County police said the driver apparently lost control of the car, striking several trees on the side of road on Lowell Avenue, just south of Atlantic Street in Central Islip, earlier this month.

Andrew O’Connor, 18, of Rocky Point was in the rear driver’s side of the car and was critically injured. He was taken to Southside Hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

Sound Beach Man Arrested on Burglary Charge

Police said a Sound Beach man was arrested after breaking into a Mt. Sinai home by cutting out the rear window screen.

According to police, Nicholas Vivo, 25, was arrested on Aug. 28 and charged with felony second-degree burglary. At the time of the arrest, police said Vivo had marijuana on him and they also charged him with unlawful possession of marijuana, which is a violation.

Arson Squad Probes Fire at Crossroads Plaza
Suffolk County arson investigators are looking into a fire that broke at the Crossroads Plaza in Rocky Point.

The fire happened on the second floor of the plaza above the now vacant Assaggio restaurant, according to Rocky Point Fire District Commissioner, Steve Tumulty.

Cops: Maryhaven Manager Stole $19K From Employer
Police said Samantha Cuomo, 28, stole approximately $19,000 over a 14-month span leading up to March of this year, allegedly spending the money at places such as Hollywood Salon and Day Spa in Miller Place and Estelle's Dressy Dresses in Farmingdale.

Cuomo, who has since been terminated from her post as the manager of Maryhaven's Miller Place facility, is charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony.

Walgreens Opening Delayed
Residents in the Miller Place-Rocky Point area waited patiently for the newly constructed Walgreens on Rt 347 to open

A manager at the store said some delays by the town regarding signs was the hold up. The store opened last week.
