9/11 Memorial Will Bear All Names of Those Lost in Attacks

A ceremony honoring those killed will be held Wednesday evening in Shoreham.

To honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks, the Rocky Point Fire Department  will hold a remembrance ceremony Wednesday evening at the memorial site in Shoreham.

The department recently added the names of all who were killed that day onto steel panels that line the memorial. Through their fundraising efforts, the department will also line the memorial in granite, which is expected to be added later this year.

Five residents from Rocky Point were killed in the attacks. Joanne M. Ahladiotis, Sgt. Michael Curtin, Kevin M. Williams and sisters Lisa and Samantha Egan.

The department is still raising funds to help pay for the all-volunteer project. Granite will need to be cut and capped in the future around the reflecting pool, out of which a fallen beam from the World Trade Center rises.

People interested in donating can buy a personalized brick for $100, about $75 of which will go toward the fundraising effort after the bricks are etched. Click here to donate to the memorial.

The ceremony takes place Wednesday at 7 p.m. and is open to all members of the community.
