Beach Advisory Issued for Area Beaches

Last night's heavy rainfall leads to advisory issued against bathing.

With heavy rainfall late Monday, the Suffolk County Department of Health Services has issued an advisory against bathing at 21 beaches Tuesday due to a potential that bacterial numbers exceed New York State Standards.

The impacted beaches are those heavily influenced by stormwater runoff from the surrounding watersheds and adjacent tributaries. These beaches also experience limited tidal flushing. The advisory will be in effect until at least 6 a.m. Wednesday, possibly longer if bacterial numbers remain high.

There are 10 beaches in Rocky Point, Sound Beach and Miller Place listed in the advisory:
