Brookhaven Town Salt Storage Building Collapses

Highway superintendent says building collapse "will pose a significant challenge logistically for the remainder of the snow season."

A Brookhaven Highway Department salt storage building in Miller Place collapsed under the weight of snow and ice Thursday evening, according to Brookhaven Highway Superintendent Dan Losquadro.

Losquadro, in announcing the news on his Facebook page, said no one was hurt when the building's roof collapsed just before dark, but he said the incident "will pose a significant challenge logistically for the remainder of the snow season."

"I have already been in touch with the NYS DOT and the Suffolk County DPW to make short term and long term arrangements to ensure my crews have an adequate supply of material for that section of the town," Losquadro said on Facebook. "Aging infrastructure throughout the Highway Department that I inherited when I came into office will be a challenge for me for some time."
