44 Acre Land Purchase Preserves Open Space

More than 44 acres of open space in Mt. Sinai will be preserved thanks to a joint purchase agreement between Brookhaven town and Suffolk County.

The property, located in the Little Portions Friary and currently owned by the Society of St. Francis, is part of land located adjacent to Mt. Sinai Harbor and within the watershed of the harbor, according to a town spokesperson.

Military Service Spans 4 Generations for Miller Place Family

On Sunday, September 22, Congressman Tim Bishop honored four generations of U.S. military service by the Gabler Family in a ceremony at the family’s home in Miller Place.

Spanning several generations, and wars, the Gabler family of Miller Place has certainly earned a distinction among military families.

Serbian President Unveils Shoreham Tesla Monument
A life size, granite statue of Nikola Tesla, donned in suit and tie, was unveiled on Monday at the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe in Shoreham.

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic honored the great inventor, traveling thousands of miles to pay respect and to dedicate the statue in Tesla's honor.

Security Update for Mt. Sinai Schools

A security upgrade is in process at all three Mt. Sinai school buildings.

The upgrade, which was spoken about during last week’s board of education meeting uses an intercom system and a scan of a visitor’s driver’s license. Someone visiting the building will buzz the intercom placed on the locked front door. A monitor on the inside would see the visior and then buzz them in.

Shoreham Student Selected for National Choir Ensemble
Shoreham resident and St. Anthony's High School student Phillip Losquadro will head to Nashville, Tenn., in October to perform under some of the nation's most prominent conductors as part of the National Association for Music Education All-National honors ensembles.
