Failed Traffic Light Spurs Rocky Point Crossing Guard into Action

Rocky Point crossing guard Lisa Lawry safely directed eight lanes of traffic during a signal failure.

When a traffic signal failed at one of the area’s busiest intersections a local crossing guard didn’t fail her students.

On the morning of Sept. 26, the light at the intersection of Rt. 25A and Rocky-Point Yaphank Road stopped working. Equipped with only her stop sign, Lawry bravely stepped out into the road and directed eight lanes of traffic and four turn lanes.

Lawry was recently recognized by the Rocky Point Board of Education and Legis. Sarah Anker for her deeds.
