Following Incident, Brookhaven Lab Changes Radiation Procedures

Lab implementing stricter requirements to radiological activity procedures following leak.

After a September incident forced officials to suspend radiological activity at Brookhaven National Lab, officials reviewed and will now modify radiation procedures, according to a Long Island Business News report.

On Sept. 28, two employees discovered a lead container they were transporting was leaking small doses of radiation. After finding the leak, they locked the truck to keep the radiation from spreading, according to the report.

Due to this incident, BNL Director Sam Aronson ordered a temporary halt to all radiological operations, and after review the Lab determined it will implement stricter requirements for the transportation of sealed sources, among other changes. Read the full report on LIBN.com.
