Grab and Go Kids Planner for Valentine's Weekend

A Valentine Dance, Toddler Games, Candy Grams, Kung Fu and Swimming.

This is Valentine's weekend--the day itself is Monday--and kids can have their own take on the season with a dance at the elementary school in Rocky Point and candy grams at the North Shore Public Library. You can go for a different take on the weekend with kung fu and swimming.

Where/When: In the cafeteria of Joseph A. Edgar School, 525 Route 25a, Rocky Point, Saturday, Feb. 11, at 1:30 p.m.

Why Go: Introduce the little ones to the sweetness of Valentine's Day--and maybe make some of the boys less shy about dancing with girls.

Where/When: Shaolin Kung Fu Studios Inc., New York 25A, Rocky Point, NY 11778, weekly on Fridays, 5 p.m.-6 p.m. and Saturdays, 2 p.m-3 p.m.

Why Go: Martial arts is great for acquiring confidence and discipline at a young age. The Mini Dragons class is for children 5-7 years old and incorporates stretching, basic blocks, punches, kicks, reflex drills and coordination training. Games and an excercise are added to keep the kids focused.

3.  PLAYTIME FOR TODDLERS

Where/When: Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Comsewogue Public Library, 170 Terryville Road, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776.

Why Go: Free play, art and puzzles for toddlers will be offered from 10:30 a.m.-11:45 a.m for toddlers ages 1-3. From 12:30-1:45 p.m., children over three to K will have their chance for imaginative play with toys, the art corner and skill-based games, puzzles and books. Grade K siblings are welcome but need to be registered.

Where/When: The North Shore Public Library , 250 Route 25A, Shoreham, NY 11786., Feb. 9, 10 and 12 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m.

Why Go: The library's Teen Advisory Group is raising funds for its events.  Personalize a candy bar for your special Valentine.

5. SWIMMING IN WINTER

Where/When: School of Fish Swim and Scuba, 572 Route 25A, Rocky Point, , weekdays 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Why Go: There still may be snow outside and the kids may be tired of sledding, but you can get swimming and scuba lessons as well as water fitness at School of Fish.
