Grab and Go Kids Planner: Miller Place-Rocky Point's St. Patrick's Day Parade

Start with Leprechaun Pudding at the library and end with the biggest event of all.

With the days getting longer this last weekend of standard time starts with Leprechaun Pudding and ends with the first day of Daylight Savings Time on Sunday, when everyone will be out in force for the 61st annual Miller Place-Rocky Point St. Patrick's Day Parade.

1. LEPRECHAUN PUDDING AT NSPL

Where/When: The North Shore Public Library, 250 Route 25A, Shoreham, NY March 11, (ages 3-5) 1:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m., (grades 3-5) 4:30 p.m.

Why Go: Work with Diane Stalzer to create a magical St. Patrick's Day dessert.

2."On My Own" at Comsewogue

Where/When: Comsewogue Public Library, 170 Terryville Road, Port Jefferson Station, March 11 /18/25, 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m.

Why Go: For a program on three consecutive Fridays for children ages 3-5 who will be entering kindergarten or pre-K in fall 2011: "On My Own," with pre-school educators to help them adjust to separation from parents and a new group environment. Each session is 45 minutes.  Registration required.

3. STORY AND CRAFT EVENT--RAINBOWS

Where/When: The UPS Store, 5507 Nesconset Hwy, Mount Sinai, March 12, 10:30 a.m.–noon.

Why Go: For a rainbow-themed story and craft event to celebrate spring and the success of the UPS book drive for the Elsie Owens North Brookhaven Health Center’s Reach Out and Read Program.  Children ages 2-6 years old are invited to join with parent participation.

4. MINI DRAGONS KUNG FU AT SHAOLIN

Where/When: Shaolin Kung Fu Studios Inc., New York 25A, Rocky Point, Weekly on Saturdays, 2-3 p.m.

Why Go: Mini Dragons classes for 5-7 years olds, incorporate self defense, stretching, basic blocks, punches, kicks, reflex drills, and coordination training. This is all structured around learning discipline, focus, concentration and direction, with exciting games and excercise to keep a young mind at attention.

5. MILLER PLACE-ROCKY POINT ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE

Where/When: Starts at Harrison Avenue and 25A, Miller Place, NY 11764, and goes to Gracie's on Broadway, Rocky Point, NY 11778, March 13, 2011, 1 p.m.

Why Go: The 61st Annual Miller Place-Rocky Point St. Patrick's Day Parade, the biggest community event of the year: bag pipes, school marching bands, floats, fire engines, classic cars and more.
