Grab and Go Kids Planner: Biking At Heritage Park and Family Fun At The Children's Maritime Museum

Biking at "The Wedge," indoor snowman fun, music for kids and the maritime museum.

With the start of  winter break it will actually be looking a little less like winter and a little more like spring, with milder temperatures than we've had for some time. There are always a lot of great indoor activities, but you can also bring the kids outside for some biking, roller blading, or just a light stroll.

Where/When: Comsewogue Public Library, 170 Terryville Rd, Port Jefferson Station, Friday, Feb. 18, 10–11 a.m., and 11:15a.m.-12:15p.m.

Why Go: For toddlers, 18-35 months of age with caregiver.  Younger siblings are welcome but must be in infant seats. A program with a teacher from A Time for Kids will read a snowman flannel story, followed by a snowman activity and then create a snowman craft learning to identify parts and clothing.

2. MOVIN' WITH MIKE--SONGS FOR KIDS

Where/When: The North Shore Public Library, 250 Route 25A, Shoreham, Friday, February 18, 6:30pm.

Why Go: Mike Soloway, performer and composer, presents a fun interactive music program for ages 3-7.

Pricing: Free, but registration required. Call 631-929-4488.

3. OPEN GYM FOR YOUNG GYMNASTS

Where/When: Gold Medal Gymnastics Center, 683 Route 25a, Rocky Point,  weekly on Saturdays, 9-11 a.m.

Why Go: The center opens its doors to young gymnasts who wish to workout on any routines they choose.  All children are supervised.

Pricing: $8 members, $16 non-members.

4. FAMILY FUN AT THE CHILDREN'S MARITIME MUSEUM

When/Where:  Port Jefferson Village Center, 101a E Broadway, Port Jefferson. Weekly on Saturdays and Sundays. Saturdays – 3-5 p.m. Sundays – 1-5 p.m.

Why Go: Engineer a waterwheel, design a dock, bail a boat, navigate a virtual harbor and more. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

5. GETTING OUTDOORS AT HERITAGE PARK

Where/When: Heritage Park (aka "The Wedge"), intersection of Route25A and Country Road 83 in Mt. Sinai. Any day, from dawn to dusk.

Why Go: A great open space for kids to get back on their bikes and roller blades that have been snowbound all winter.

Pricing: Absolutely free.
