Miller Place Gold Award Winner Speaks at Town Hall

Kaitlin Burkhardt among 24 Gold Award recipients and 44 Eagle Scouts.

In 2010, 66 Brookhaven Girl and Boy Scouts earned either their Gold Awards or Eagle Scout honors, and at the end of June they were honored at Brookhaven Town Hall.

Miller Place's Kaitlin Burkhardt, a Gold Award recipient, was chosen to speak at the event. Burkhardt discussed her award-winning project --
the Anti-Ouch Pouch--a soft shoulder bag with an ice pack insert designed to protect and reduce the discomfort in mastectomy patients.

100 Anti-Ouch Pouches were donated by Burkhardt to the Fortunato Breast Cancer Center in Port Jefferson.

“Every scout that we honor tonight should be proud of their achievement,” Supervisor Mark Lesko said. “I congratulate them for their dedication, commitment and service to the community and I also commend their parents for the support they give to these exceptional young people."
