After months of fundraising, Miller Place High School student Kara Patrovic has finally met with her sponsored child Mijael in Bolivia
Patrovic raised over $6,000 in order to meet the child she sponsored through Childfund, and distributed toys more than 50 children in the community. She met Mijael on Aug. 16 and had a planned 10 days in the country. According to Patrovic, there are 10 Childfund projects in Tarija, Bolivia helping 445 families and more than 644 kids.
The student has updated her facebook page with photos and sent a thank you letter to all those who supported her efforts.
"Thank you for all of your help to get me here, it is an amazing experience and I wish I could stay here longer than the ten days planned!," she wrote. "Mijael and his community were very welcoming and I loved being in their company. Yuli (Mijael's mom) told me to please thank every person who helped me get here and she also made beautiful hand made letters in thanks."
