VIDEO: Music, Floats and Fun at 61st Annual Miller Place-Rocky Point St. Patrick's Day Parade

Local Residents gathered on a beautiful afternoon for the MP-RP Parade.

Residents flocked to Harrison Ave. on the corner of 25a for the start of the on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon to enjoy a day of music, floats and fun.

The parade, which lasted over four hours, extended down 25a to Main St. in Rocky Point before finishing at down Broadway. The parade drew not only residents from Rocky Point, Miller Place and Sound Beach, but also from neighboring towns such as Shoreham, Selden and more.

“We have family here but it’s our first time at this parade and it’s very nice, I like it a lot…the music, bands, everything,” said Lorie from Selden, who also takes her children to on Broadway. “We’re definitely coming back next year. We love it here it’s a great little town.”

While there were many first-timers, returnees made sure not to miss the 61st edition of the parade.

“We’ve been coming here since 2000,” said Brett from Shoreham. “It’s fantastic, the kid’s love it. My son is a Cub Scout and he marched in it today. We got to see our great senator and all those volunteer firemen and got to appreciate all the military officers and veterans. It’s a wonderful event.”

The parade began with The Suffolk County Detachment of the Marine Corps League Color Guard, which marched in its fourth Miller Place-Rocky Point Parade. Members of the detachment, located in Bay Shore, will also be marching with the Marines on St. Patrick's Day for the parade in Manhattan.

The Color Guard was followed by parade Grand Marshal Neil Maguire, who spoke before the festivities began about the excitement leading up to the parade.

"We picked a beautiful day to have the parade, it couldn’t be any better than this," he said. "I’m very happy that all the bag pipers showed up and everything seems to be working out well. It’s a great day for a parade. A lot of people are congratulating me on being Grand Marshal…I’ve been in the parade for 25 years as a member for 25 years and I’m very happy about being Grand Marshal, it’s a great honor.”

The Friends of St. Patrick brought the parade together with the help of the Town of Brookhaven, the Department of Transportation and Suffolk Police. The parade itself was filled with floats from local businesses such as and in Rocky Point, the local fire department's, local Cub Scout and Girl Scout troops, the Suffolk County Police Emerald Society's Pipe and Drum Band, Peconic Warpipes, Kerry Kearney Blues Band and more to provide an afternoon of fun and excitement for the 61st time.
