Certificates of Appreciation were given to Eleanor McGuire and Dorothy Hoffman for being “Foster Grandparents” as part of a program to allow senior citizens to mentor local children, and a certificate was also presented to camper Jazlynn Ramdass for her $50 donation to the United States Military at a recent ReGeneration Camp at Diamond in the Pines Park in Coram.
Councilwoman Jane Bonner handed out the awards and also read to children in the camp.
“It was a pleasure to read to the campers as part of the Town’s great ReGeneration Summer Camp program," she said. "It has been proven that children who read throughout the summer are more likely to be successful in the classroom than those who don’t. I hope that these children will take some time out of their summer schedule to sit outside and pick up a good book to enjoy.”
