Two honored with Eagle Scout rank after special projects benefit the town.

Gordon Haner and Kasey Wallace of Troop 384 in Mt. Sinai were awared the rank of Eagle Scout on Jan. 5 at a ceremony at Mount Sinai High School.

Councilwoman Jane Bonner and Legis. Sarah Anker attended the ceremony and presented them with congratulations for achieving the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.

Eagle Scout Haner’s project was done at the Town’s Satterly Landing Park in Mount Sinai Harbor. He and other scouts installed a new roof on the kiosk, fixed benches, replaced the border around a large tree, planted a garden and laid
stepping stones around it.

Eagle Scout Wallace’s project was done at the Town’s Holtsville Ecology site and included building three new display cases for the bee exhibit which provides educational information about bees and honey making. He also worked
with other scouts to construct a fence to protect a display hive and donated educational literature about bees that are now available in the display.

“I commend Gordon and Kasey for their service to the community and completing these projects that will benefit the residents of Brookhaven Town," Bonner said. "I also thank their parents for the support they give to these
exceptional young men. They are the leaders of tomorrow and set a great example for all to follow.”
