The Town of Brookhaven recently hosted two “Shed the Meds” Pharmaceutical Take-Back program events with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office at the Rose Caracappa Senior Center in Mount Sinai on June 9 and Leisure Village in Ridge on June 13.
Residents stopped by to drop off unused prescription medications, which were then disposed of in an environmentally safe manner by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office.
“The ‘Shed the Meds’ event was a resounding success thanks to the cooperation between the Town, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, and the residents who stopped by to get rid of these dangerous medications," said Councilwoman Jane Bonner. "Not only did we prevent these controlled substances from causing harm to our residents, but we also raised awareness about the dangers that these products pose when misused.”
