PHOTOS: Patriotic Triangle Continues to Develop in Heritage Park

The Patriotic Triangle at Heritage Park in Mt. Sinai continues its development, and saw many visitors during the Parade of American Flags on July 4.

The area was planted by Girl Scout Troop 1090 of Miller Place on May 6. Since the planting  of "red, white and blue" Patriotic Triangle on May 6 two other concepts or representations have evolved, according to Fred Drewes, Heritage Trust volunteer.

Drewes said that Michael Muroff, Boy Scout of Troop 384, asked if the triangle represented the three branches of our government.

"This insightful thought now adds to the Avenue and Court of America," Drewes said.

He also mentioned that one visitor commented on its heart shape, which Drewes said was not planned.

The Patriotic Triangle of Girl Scout Troop 1090 represents  our "national colors", "love of Country", and "structure of government."

Drewes explained that the Avenue of America in Heritage Park has an allee of trees, many of which are state trees. The Avenue is lined with pavers symbolizing the colonial period of our nation. The pavers then display the growth of our country as states and territories entered our Union. Clusters of state flowers are being planted around the borders of the sitting area called the Court of America. All of these added to the Heritage Park and make the park a community focal point.
