Miller Place Boy Wins Astorial Federal Savings Essay Contest

Michael Petrie, 8, submits winning essay at Rocky Point Astoria branch.

The winning essay of Astoria Federal Savings' seventh annual essay contest for children aged 5-12 was submitted by eight-year-old Michael Petrie, of Miller Place, at the Rocky Point Astoria branch.

Children were asked to write an essay which completed the statement: “If I save a lot today, in the future I could…”, and nearly 1,000 essays were received from neighborhood branches throughout Suffolk, Nassau, Queens, Brooklyn and Westchester.

Petrie submitted the winning entry at the Rocky Point branch, and his winning essay described how he would plan to start charities to help children with diabetes and to rescue homeless dogs.
