Top 5 Stories of the Summer

Here's a look back at the summer of 2013.

Summer seems to end almost as quickly as it starts. For kids, the days seem endless and well, they sometimes seem that way for adults. We thought we'd take a few moments and look back at some of the summer's biggest headlines. 



1. Record Highs Possible on North Shore as Temps Sizzle

July's heat wave had us all sweltering, but it was fairly short lived. Record hot days topped 100 degrees and many resident found refuge at local beaches and backyard pools. 

2. During Heat Wave, Firefighters Battle Mt. Sinai Blaze

This Mount Sinai fire that had local firefighters sweltering as  they fought the intense fire and hear. Heavy smoke and flames were still shot out of the roof as firefighters from five different departments responded to the call.

3. Sound Beach Man Saved From Sinking Boat

Dan Antino, 28, of Sound Beach, was rescued by members of the Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau back in July.  Antino and another boater were on a 16-foot Bayliner, that was half-submerged approximately one-and-a-half miles off the shore when the officers arrived. They rescued the boat's two passengers, who were wearing life jackets, and towed the boat into Port Jefferson Harbor.

4. Mt. Sinai Grads Take the Next Step [PHOTOS]

This little luncheonette sure is feeding hungry for some home cooking. It is become pretty popular with the locals and is a nice addition to the Sound Beach food scene. (And we hear George is a pretty nice guy too)
