Former Miller Place Football Star Dies at 22

Matthew Thomas Dunn, Miller Place class of 2009 and student and football player at Utica College, died suddenly of an enlarged heart at the age of 22 on June 21. 

Dunn, a captain of the Utica College Football Team and an All American, was born on May 5, 1991 in Port Jefferson. He is the son of Thomas and Laurie (Niedzwieski) Dunn and sibling to three. A benefit was held to help his family at Napper Tandy's on Monday.

UPDATE: Missing Miller Place Woman Found

A Miller Place woman missing since Wednesday afternoon was found Friday night by Seventh Precinct police. No further details were immediately available.

AG: Aides Bound, Smothered, Punched 88-Year-Old Nursing Home Patient

A nurse and a nursing aide are facing felony assault charges for allegedly beating and suffocating an 88-year-old disabled patient at a Port Jefferson nursing home more than a year ago, the state’s attorney general announced Tuesday.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said a grand jury issued an eight-count indictment against Raquel Bouton, a licensed practical nurse from Mt. Sinai, and Laura Harper, a personal care aide from Coram, charging each with second-degree assault, a felony that carries a maximum jail sentence of seven years, in connection with the March 24, 2012 incident at the Woodhaven Adult Home.

Allen Balzarano bought his million dollar Powerball ticket at Carry-All Wine & Liquor in Mt. Sinai, and now others are flocking to see if there's any luck left at the liquor store. 

Balzarano, 73, of Port Jefferson Station, was shopping for his 50th wedding anniversary celebration in May when he bought a $2 Powerball Quick Pick that turned into a $1,000,000 second place prize.
