Week in Review: Specht Family Honored for Courage, Homeless Shelter Relocated

A homeless shelter set up in a private Rocky Point home has been relocated after outcry from nearby residents.
The shelter, which was run by the Suffolk County Department of Social Services, was put in place without notice to the town according to a statement released by Brookhaven town. Councilwoman Jane Bonner said she was made aware of the issue after receiving complaints from residents.
New Walgreens Finally Opens, Offers Drive-Thru PharmacyAfter several delays, the Miller Place Walgreens opened to customers on Saturday.
The 14,80 foot store offers a drive-thru pharmacy and online shopping with in-store pick-up where customers shop via the web and pick up their ready to go order in the store.

The Smithtown Children’s Foundation awarded the Kaylee Rivers Courage Award to the Specht Family who lost their 22-month old son, Richard Edwin-Ehmer, nicknamed Rees, in adrowning accident in Oct. 2012. The Spechts, of Sound Beach, launched Reespecht Life, a foundation in honor of their son that encourages kindness and paying it forward.
