A homeless shelter set up in a private Rocky Point home has been relocated after outcry from nearby residents.
The shelter, which was run by the Suffolk County Department of Social Services, was put in place without notice to the town according to a statement released by Brookhaven town. The Smithtown Children’s Foundation awarded the Kaylee Rivers Courage Award to the Specht Family who lost their 22-month old son, Richard Edwin-Ehmer, nicknamed Rees, in adrowning accident in Oct. 2012. The Spechts, of Sound Beach, launched Reespecht Life, a foundation in honor of their son that encourages kindness and paying it forward.
