Shoreline Stabilization Project Begins In Sound Beach

After years of issues and a few very concerning months after Hurricane Sandy and the February snowstorm, Sound Beach property owners were pleased to see the first step of stabilization at the shoreline completed this week. 

New Brookhaven town Superintendent of Highways Dan Losquadro and Councilwoman Jane Bonner gathered on Shore Drive in Sound Beach to announce the completion of the first phase of the project Friday.

Off-Duty Officer Revives Man Suffering Heart Attack in Mt. Sinai

Suffolk police announced Friday evening that an off-duty officer revived an 86-year-old man suffering a heart attack at a store in Mt. Sinai on Friday afternoon.

Police said Lance Prager, an off-duty Emergency Service Section officer who just left training for Advanced Life Support as part of the Suffolk County MedCAT Team, witnessed the elderly man fall to the floor while at Agway on Route 25A in Mt. Sinai. He determined the man had no pulse and wasn't breathing, and started CPR while a store employee retrieved his medical bag from his car.

Suffolk Police Investigating Officer for Choking Incident in Sound Beach

After a video was posted on YouTube of a man getting grabbed by the throat by a police officer in his Sound Beach home, the Suffolk County Police Department's internal affairs bureau is investigating, according to a report in Newsday.

The video shows the officer grabbing Michael Schuchman, 22, of Sound Beach in his kitchen after police responded to a complaint of a loud party at the home on Sayville Road back in March.

Panthers Come Back To Down Mt. Sinai

Down by six runs early in the game, the Miller Place Panthers stormed back to overcome the Mt. Sinai Mustangs, 7-6, in the first round of the varsity baseball playoffs. 

Third baseman Ethan Fox drove in leadoff hitter and left fielder Vinny Bua in the bottom of the eighth to complete the comeback.
