Mt. Sinai Girls Lax Caps Perfect Season With State Title

The Mount Sinai varsity lacrosse girls are state champions.

The varsity lax squad hoisted the trophy Saturday at SUNY Cortland after a 15-6 victory over Skaneateles.

Caroline Fitzgerald was named the tournament MVP after her game-tying goal helped key a 10-0 run int he victory. Fitzgerald also had two goals and an assist in Friday's semifinal win over Honeoye Falls-Lima. The win caps off a 20-0 season for the Mustangs.

Onion Volcanoes Anyone? Nishiki Hibachi Coming to Miller Place


Nishiki Hibachi and Sushi Japanese Restaurant is officially coming to Miller Place. 

The plan to convert four retail spaces in the Dunkin' Donuts plaza at 725 Route 25a in Miller Place to a 119-seat restaurant was approved at the May 20 board meeting. 

Now, a sign appears on the north side of 25a in front of the future restaurant letting locals now that the restaurant is coming soon. 

Miller Place Implements SCOPE Kindergarten Program

After deciding not to implement a full-day kindergarten program in this year's budget after lengthy consideration, the Miller Place Board of Education has decided to approve a one-year SCOPE Kindergarten Enrichment Program. 

The term is for one year and it comes at no cost to district. The cost per child is $318 a month and a room has been designated. According to board trustee Michael Unger, the program cuts down on transition time for those students involved. Students can take the bus one way but will either get dropped off or picked up the other way.

Three Accidents in Three Days on Route 25A in Miller Place

There have been three crashes in three days on Route 25A in Miller Place that have sent a total of five to the hospital.

After a major accident shut down part of 25A for a few hours Monday, the Miller Place Fire Department and Suffolk Police responded to another crash at the corner of Harrison Avenue on Tuesday night and then a third at the dangerous intersection of Miller Place Road and 25A Wednesday.

Rocky Point Student Approached by Stranger at Bus Stop

A Rocky Point student was approached by a stranger at a bus stop on Tall Tree Lane and Center Court Wednesday morning. 

A letter by Superintendent Michael Ring was sent to parents in the district informing them of the incident this afternoon. According to the letter, the person was a white male, mid to late thirties with closely cropped, short, dark hair. He was driving a white 1992 Honda Accord.
