Weekend Planner: Drive One for Miller Place Schools, Zumba for Jesse

This weekend is full of family-friendly events beneficial to the community, including fundraisers for the Miller Place School District and Jesse Pallas, a kindergartener fighting leukemia.

When/Where: 6-10 p.m. Friday at the Sound Beach Fire House

Why Go: Come enjoy the annual SBFD Steak Night with door prizes, a Chinese Auction and a 50/50 raffle. Tickets cost $20 and one child 12 and under is free with accompanying adult. For additonal ticket information, call 744-7033.

When/Where: 9 a.m. Saturday at the Cedar Beach Bar & Grille (previously Singletons) at 753 Harbor Beach Road, Mount Sinai.

Why Go: Support Jesse Pallas, a kindergartener in Miller Place, in his struggle to fight leukemia. Come help raise money by attending this Zumbathon charity event, which will include raffles and t-shirt sales.

Why Go: Organized by the Miller Place Friends of the Arts and sponsored by Ramp Ford of Port Jefferson; enjoy a day that will help raise funds for the Music & Arts programs.

The "DriveOne 4Ur School" event allows you to take a spin in a brand new car and soak up that new car smell, and the FotA gets a $20 donation from Ford. If 300 people (18 and older with a valid drivers license) show up Ford will donate $6,000 to support the music and arts programs in Miller Place. There will also be the FotA Annual Ice Cream Social and a Car Wash run by the MPHS Student Government, plus freshments and more.

When/Where: 9 a.m. Sunday at 229 Hallock Landing Rd. in Rocky Point.

Why Go: Start your Sunday with relaxing yoga on the beach. Join the Relay Yoga Warriors as they raise funds for their Rocky Point Relay for Life Team. Bring your mat and a towel or blanket and $10. For more information contact Amy Perri at 631-839-0644 or Yogawithamy@optonline.net.

When/Where: 7:30 a.m. at the North Country Road Middle School

Why Go: The run will benefit deserving scholar-athletes as well as support and maintain the Miller Place School District sport programs. There will be trophies, medals, food, raffles and more. Late registration will take place June 3 from 7:30-9:15 a.m.

When/Where: 1 p.m. Sunday at the .

Why Go: Tommy is an 8-year old Miller Place boy who is currently recovering from surgery to remove a brain tumor. Although the surgery was successful, his battle is not yet over and he will need to continue with extensive radiation therapy in the months to follow. Come out and support Tommy and his family at the Miller Place fire house with live entertainment by "I Step Ahead," food, drinks, games, clowns, face-painting, raffles, 50/50 and more.
