YouTube user jkplus3 uploaded a video of an encounter with about 50 bottle-nosed dolphins in Tides Beach in Rocky Point.
The sighting took place on Aug. 5 and the video was uploaded Aug. 7. The user writes, "Went fishing for Porgies about a half mile off of TIdes Beach in Rocky Point when these guys showed up unannounced!"
It's rare that the mammals appear in the Long Island Sound, but it has happened in the past, most recently in 2009 according to reports.
