On March 5, a special election will be held for Town of Brookhaven Highway Superintendent. The Sound Beach Civic Association will be hosting a Meet the Candidates Night on Feb. 11, 7:30 PM, at the Sound Beach Firehouse and invite everyone to come and ask questions of the candidates for this position: Assemblyman Daniel Losquadro and Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh. Because so much of what happens in our area relates to Highway, on a local level this is a critical election. For more information the Civic can be contacted at 744-6952.

In a recent interview with Patch, DePaoli said while seeking write-in votes is an uphill battle, he believes it's important to give the voters a choice beyond the traditional political parties. He said he was dissatisfied when the town's most recent highway superintendent, John Rouse, ran unopposed in the 2011 election cycle.
It should be a position that is open to any individual and not tied to politics. Town of Brookhaven needs a total revamp, including education, which is a whole other can of worms. Time to wake up people!
