Open Letter to Sound Beach Bus Riders

Do you want better bus service?

The Sound Beach Civic Association is working with Legislator Sarah Anker's office to get better bus service through Sound Beach and we need input from bus riders about what needs to be done to accomplish this.

We are concentrating on better coordination between the 5A, which runs several times a day through Sound Beach, and connecting lines in Port Jefferson. In addition we are asking for the 5A to go through earlier westbound in the morning and later eastbound at night.

Bus service through our hamlet dates from when Sound Beach was a summer community. This is no longer the case. We are now a middle-class working community and we need better bus service.

So we need more bus riders to weigh in. Please send your comments to the Sound Beach Civic Association, PO Box 295, Sound Beach, NY 11789. We are putting all comments together and submitting them to Legislator Anker. The more letters we get, the more likely they will pay attention to us.

Spoken like a true teacher. Did you know that the average school teacher is only paying 15% of theRead More actual cost of health care premiums for themselves and their families, when Medical healthcare insurance premiums are rising at an alarming 17% per annum? Do you realize that teachers are paid an additional stipend if they work more than 3 consecutive periods in a day? Are you aware that teacher pensions were protected during the stock market crash of 2008, when the average person's 401K was totally at risk? Perhaps if teachers realized how good they have it - look at the BIG picture and outside of their bubble - then they would complain less. Oh and yes, we need our loftily-paid Administrators to kick in some of the salaries, to help pay for stuff. Hard to believe the school districts' mantras that "it's all for the kids".
