Voters Approve Rocky Point Budget

Rocky Point voters passed a $74.3 million budget on Tuesday by a vote of 1,058-458. The budget included a 3.54 percent tax levy increase within the cap, so it needed just the majority of 50 percent plus one in order to pass.

The budget is a 3.75 percent increase over last year’s and did not include any layoffs or cuts.

"I know that the Board of Education joins me in thanking the Rocky Point School District community for their support of the budget," said superintendent Michael Ring.

"This financial plan is one that will enable our district to build upon past programs and continue to enrich learning experiences for all students – all while maintaining our financial commitment to taxpayers, as the budget carries a tax levy increase below the state's cap."

In the school board vote, Susan Sullivan defeated Jessica Ward by earning 906 votes while 515 votes went to Ward.

"I congratulate our newly elected Board trustee, Susan Y. Sullivan, and look forward to working with her in the future," Ring added.
