#94: A 'Spaliday' For Girls at Lipstick & Lollipops

A store that caters to VIP's: Very Important Princesses in Mt. Sinai.

Upon entering Lipstick & Lollipops, you will notice the decor is decidedly French Shabby Chic meets storybook princess; a place built for girls, inspired by girls.

Christine Barnhill, former elementary school teacher and owner of Lipstick & Lollipops, located at 176 North Country Rd. in Mt. Sinai, was inspired by her daughter to open the spa.

"My daughter would get invited to parties and I thought I could make this much nicer, not cheesy," she said.

The 'aha' moment hit when Barnhill took then three-year-old Jenna to see Pinkalicious The Musical on Broadway. The show is based on the popular children's book of the same name by Victoria Kann and Elizabeth Kann.

"We loved the show, and for her fourth birthday I did a Pinkalicious party at our house," she said. "Pink nails, pink hair, pink tutus, pink everything; the girls loved it. Everyone said 'Christine you have to do this,' so I did...I came up with our Pinkalicious signature party."

At a Pinkalicious party the guests, referred to as 'pinkerbelles,' are primped, poofed and pampered in the tradition of true Southern Belles while they chat with each other and nibble on red velvet cupcakes.

Other party experiences offered are the popular Pampered Girl Spa Party: Mani/pedis taken to extreme girliness, with ice cream flavored massage lotions and fruit smoothie facials.  At The Rockin' Diva Party, girls unleash their inner rock stars by donning colored hair extensions and glittering stage make-up.

Lipstick & Lollipops is gearing up for its one year anniversary in May.

"We are renovating," Barnhill said. "We're adding new stations and getting new merchandise."

The renovations will be in addition to the party room with its red carpeted stage where young guests are encouraged to sing karaoke and dance under a shimmering disco ball. There is a spa room where girls can sit on chairs shaped like giant high heels with zebra stripes and have the most popular treat scooped up -- ice cream manicures and pedicures that smell like your favorite flavors.

Put a smile on the face of the little girl in your life and indulge her in the VIP (Very Important Princess) package or the Deluxe BFF (Best Friends Forever) where three or more girlfriends can enjoy an hour of spa treatments followed by a twirl on the dance floor.

Whether you're looking for a mother/daughter day of fun or a birthday party for your little girl or tween, indulge in Lipstick & Lollipops.

Spoken like a true teacher. Did you know that the average school teacher is only paying 15% of theRead More actual cost of health care premiums for themselves and their families, when Medical healthcare insurance premiums are rising at an alarming 17% per annum? Do you realize that teachers are paid an additional stipend if they work more than 3 consecutive periods in a day? Are you aware that teacher pensions were protected during the stock market crash of 2008, when the average person's 401K was totally at risk? Perhaps if teachers realized how good they have it - look at the BIG picture and outside of their bubble - then they would complain less. Oh and yes, we need our loftily-paid Administrators to kick in some of the salaries, to help pay for stuff. Hard to believe the school districts' mantras that "it's all for the kids".
