Couple Takes Over Auto Repair Shop

They've renamed the business "TLC Transmissions and Affordable Auto Care." Emphasis on the word "Care."

"I wanted the name and the logo to represent who we are," said Bobbi Ann DePierro, who along with husband Dominic DePierro opened the new shop Jan. 3 at the former Aamco location at the corner of Route 347 and Belle Meade Road.


Pint Sized Kings Park Gym Packs a Punch

If warehouse-sized gyms make you feel like a spec on a treadmill you may just find your comfort zone over on Main Street at Unlimited Fitness.

The gym, housed between Gaio's Garage and has been open for eight years and has a loyal clientele that includes student athletes, adults, kids and seniors.


Lipstick and Lollipops Expands to Salon Next Door

In its third year in Mt. Sinai, Lipsticks and Lollipops has had so much success catering to young girls for their birthdays that moms told owner Christine Barnhill they wish they could get the same treatment.

"So many parents and kids have come in and asked us why we don’t cut hair and do services where we can come in for appointments," Barnhill said, "because basically we have just done little girls’ parties. They come in get their hair done and nails done and they want to know why they can’t come back for an appointment."


Budding Fashion Entrepreneur Opens Commack Dress Shop

Having celebrated her 25th birthday last month, Diona Amen is one of Commack’s youngest entrepreneurs. With a passion for fashion and business skills to boot, she is the owner of  which celebrated its grand opening Feb. 16.


Hop Farmer Turns to Kickstarter to Boost Local Craft Beer Industry

John Condzella, of Condzella Hops in Wading River, has provided hops for a couple of Port Jeff Brewing Co. beers. Now he's looking for a way to increase output.


New Medical Building Proposed for Terry Road

A proposal for a new medical office building off Terry Road could be the third building to be constructed in the area in less than a year. The Galleria Corp, a Hauppauge-based business, has submitted plans to build a 11,817-square-foot medical building off the intersection of Terry Road and Route 347 in Smithtown. It would be setback behind the existing Walgreen's pharmacy.
