Event Spotlight: 63rd Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade

Annual parade takes place on St. Patrick's Day this year.

A tradition unlike any other in the Miller Place-Rocky Point community, the 63rd version of the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade is set to hit Route 25A on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, this year.

Suffolk Police shut down Route 25A starting at Harrison Avenue in Miller Place and ending at Broadway in Rocky Point starting at 12 p.m. The parade starts at 1 p.m. and will feature tons of floats from local businesses, live music, marches, dances and much more.

Parking will be prohibited on Route 25A from Miller Place Road in Miller Place to around 150 feet east of Broadway in Rocky Point. Suffolk Police will also be on hand, and are reminding spectators of the Brookhaven Town ordinance that prohibits possession of open containers of alcohol. Violation could result in a $250 fine or up to 15 days in jail.

The friends of St. Patrck made a HUGE mistake moving the parade to the 17th as opposed to the scheduled date of March 10th as stated on the school calendars. People have plans and commitments that day. I know a lot of people who had planned in either attending or marching and now can't. Even the NYC parade isn't on St. Patrick's day. What were you thinking.

I don't mind it being on St. Patricks Day and I believe it has been before, but WAS it changed or were the school calendars wrong all along?

The St Patricks Day Parade has always been on the Sunday before St. Patricks Day unless it falls on St. Patricks Day! In case you forgot it is "The St. Patricks Day Parade"! I'm missing the beef about it being on St. Patricks Day! I think that's perfect!

St. Patrick's Day is on the 17th..thats it! If people cant make it cuz it "interferes" with their schedule, that is just too bad! People are too spoiled and want the world to adjust to their schedules. ENOUGH!! Get used to it.

The parade has always been the Sunday before, regardless of when St. Patrick's day falls. The school calendars posted it according to that understanding, this year is a change, not the norm. I believe that this year is not likely to be well attended more so because of the extremely cold weather than the date change however, I am one of those people that can't attend because of the change...I have to work some weekends and since I requested off for the parade on the 10th, I'll be working on the 17th. Oh well.
