Feeling Thrifty in Rocky Point

North Shore Thrift focuses on the practical, while still housing the impractical.

Joe Zoll was looking to create a practical thrift store, and after Costumes of Suffolk in Rocky Point closed, North Shore Thrift was born, and the costumes still even had a home.

Walking through the shop you'll find everything from practical furniture and clothes to unique thrift store finds, such as a New York Yankees VHS from over 15 years ago or a bird cage hanging from the ceiling. Downstairs, 2,000 square feet are lined with over 2,000 costumes, which Zoll purchased when moving into the old costume shop.

"We’re not focused on antiques, it’s practical items for the home and family," Zoll said.

After opening in January, the shop has seen more business as the weather has warmed. They also started doing community yard sales outside of the store on weekends. The large inventory is accumulated in a variety of ways, according to Zoll.

"It’s a little bit of everything," he said. "I’ve done storage units, we have donations, we consign larger items and we also buy and sell. That's pretty much how we get anything."

You can check out a community yard sale at the shop Saturday morning and pop in to the shop see what else is available.
