Fusilli Solari Blends Shelfish with a Sweet Sauce

Roasted red peppers highlight the dish with a burst of sweetness.

Opened about two years ago in Miller Place, Fusilli joined a glut of other pizzeria spots in the area. But the restaurant stands out with not just authentic Italian food that goes beyond the average pizza joint, but top-notch service with a friendly, homestyle atmosphere. The seafood dish Fusilli Solari is a good example of an Italian meal you won't find at just any old pizza place.

The Dish: Fusilli Solari ($15.95)

What's Inside: Fusilli pasta with shrimp, scallops and roasted red peppers topped with a creamy vodka sauce.

How's It Taste: The roasted red peppers are the standout in this dish because of the sweet burst they bring to every bite. The vodka sauce is creamy yet light and has a delightful sweetness of its own to compliment the peppers. The dish has a heavy seafood aroma, but the taste of the shrimp and scallops are not overpowering. The meal is filling, so prepare to take some home.

Side Dishes: You won't have room for a side dish to this one, but Fusilli serves a basket of bread and garlic knots before the meal. The garlic knots come warm and fresh without the greasiness often found on the bread. A sprinkle of parmesan cheese on top adds extra flavor to the knots.
