Petco Under Construction in Kohls Shopping Center in Rocky Point

Phasing plan will replace old greenhouse from Frank's Nursery.

The Town of Brookhaven Planning Board approved a phasing plan on Monday, April 11 to construct the 14,195 square foot retail building in Rocky Point.

A Petco will be built in the to the right of Kohls closest to 25a. The Petco will replace the old Frank's Nursery & Crafts greenhouse, which closed after the company filed for bankruptcy in 2004. Construction began immediately following approval Monday.

Building owner Cary Staller is still waiting for plans to build next to on the side of Rocky Point-Yaphank Road.

"There used to be two houses there and we knocked them down and incorporated that area into the shopping center, but there are no plans yet," Staller said.

Editors Note: A previous story was published reporting a Rite Aid would be built to the left of Michaels, but after an email from Rite Aid's PR Department questioned the report, a call was made to building owner Cary Staller. Staller confirmed that there were talks to bring a Rite Aid to the shopping center, but plans never came to fruition.
