White Castle Closes Mt. Sinai Location; Chain Considers Returning to Area

Restaurant chain open to new location in the area.

After about 10 years of serving their patented sliders in Mt. Sinai, White Castle has ceased operations at their location on Route 25A after their lease expired.

Jamie Richardson, vice president of the famous chain, explained that their situation at that location just wasn't working out.

"It’s always regretful when we can no longer continue to operate in a space," Richardson said. "As we looked at the performance and how we were doing in terms of our sales there, despite our best efforts we couldn’t get it to the point where it made sense to re-up for more time at that specific site."

Richardson said that all employees were offered a position at one of the other locations. The company is still open to returning to the area at another location.

"We’re continuing to look in that general area for perhaps new locations down the line," he said. "We really value all the customers we have that visited that location and we’d love to be back in the neighborhood at some point. For our business it just wasn't the fit we hoped for. It’s certainly never an easy decision."

Did you frequent this White Castle? If so, will you turn to another chain to feed your cravings or will you nowhead to the nearest location in Centereach? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

A couple years ago I had Wite Castle food at a family gathering, it was bought for the nostalgia of it because they used to live in the city, it was terrible. A few weeks ago I stopped at a White Castle in Queens, because they had a parking lot, it also was terrible. White Castle, I guess, has some nostalgic meaning to people who grew up in the city but that seems to be going away as more generations grow up here. They need to update their menu.

Yes their still is an empty spot where the old Burger King was in Rocky Point. They should definitely put the White Castle there....but it won't happen :(
micki October 11, 2012 at 12:21 AM
yes, that's a great area...
Mels Ditties October 11, 2012 at 03:30 AM
White Castle was actually THERE for 10 years...but whatevs....How about the folks that were trying to put the Burger King in up the road, old Ramp truck dealership (I think) come on down to Mt Sinai so we can "have it our way"!!!...(actually when that 1st opened it WAS a Burger King, AND a Fish & Chips (split shop)....Then Fish & Chips got away...then the ices places joined with White Castle and now it's just another empty building....That particular stretch of road is really not a good location...the high speed does not make for ease of stopping, even if it's to get "what you crave"....

Can't edit..have to add... Should have read "White Castle was NOT actually there for 10 years"
Earl October 11, 2012 at 04:15 AM
I think it was there for 10 years. Before that it was a Roy Rogers. That is a bad spot, things seem to come and go there. I love White Castle, but whenever I went there it was a ghost town. No surprise they closed.

It was a Chinese restaurant for many years,up until the early 80's. There was a pic of the owner with Rosalyn Carter near the cash register.

White castle should seriously look at the mastic/ shirley area, between the huge increase in population there and the hamptons traffic it would be a mob scene!
Mels Ditties October 11, 2012 at 02:52 PM
They could lease the old Roy Rogers building on William Floyd, and "almost" Montauk Hwy...It's Fast Food Central over there...Almost EVERY one is represented...CEPT White Castle

Gee Allie, Do you really need to call them "murder burgers"? And a vegan restaurant? Why, so all the idiots wearing knit wool caps in the summer would have a place to spend their .18 cents? The vegan sections in supermarkets are small for a reason.
Greg Amendola October 11, 2012 at 06:07 PM
WHITE CASTLE OR ARBY'S would both fit on the old aid auto buliding in RP

Allie, it simply is not true that junk food causes limited brain function. Why, I've eaten junk food everyday for almost fifty years and . . . .what was I saying? Oh well.
Robert October 11, 2012 at 07:47 PM
Allie, with all due respect, I don't think it's up to you to police what other people eat. I'm 100% sure that you (like everyone else) will splurge and eat something that isn't so healthy every so often. It has nothing to do with education; it's human nature to want to enjoy things.
jeremiah bullfrog October 11, 2012 at 07:52 PM
The business of selling food products (trader joes, stop n shop etc.) is flourishing even in this economy? No matter how little money you have you ALWAYS need to eat. Now whos brain function is limited? "Go sell crazy someplace else, where all stocked up here!"
Justin Time October 11, 2012 at 08:12 PM
Good it closed..enough junk food places on long island. Clean up the mess, level the land and dont come back!
K. October 11, 2012 at 08:44 PM
On October 31st, "Trick-or-Lesson" doesn't sound like much fun.
jeremiah bullfrog October 11, 2012 at 10:33 PM
Allie, when you tell your children things like fast food slows your brain function, your not giving them a choice, you are forcing your one sided opinions into their sponge like brains. My kids actually live in America and have the right to have free thought. I dont not let them eat junk food, I limit it. I dont force them to eat tree bark cookies and drive Prius"s

Chuck Ganz OK first the peach farms then the sod farms are gone now White Castle what's happining here. The old Burger King lot Rocky Point would be great or any place in RP. and its closer to my house Bring Back White Castle. Keep the tradition alive. I have eaten them for over 50 yrs plus and they have tasted thesame all those years the other burger chains cant stand up to White Castle. Thank you for listening .. LOL. Chuck@SoundBeach

I second the Chipotle comment. It's a healthier fast(ish) food restaurants that would make all parties here happy. (and if it doesn't then I'm truly speechless.....love me some chipotle)
carole ganz October 12, 2012 at 04:18 PM
Last time I checked there is an American flag outside and we all have choices...So you make the choice whether to eat certain places or not...My god take a pill and chill...
jeremiah bullfrog October 12, 2012 at 06:05 PM
Thanks for a good debate Allie!
C.Ganz October 17, 2012 at 06:46 AM
Chuck G. Ok ok. Lets settle this and just put in a Nathins and eat till our heads explode. None of this is important except we have a right to eat anything we want in this great country and the only reason we can debate a silly topic like this is thanks to the men and women that fight for our freedom our Armed Forces. Thank you all for your service. Chuck@SoundBeach

It's not a Mount Sinai Village or another Strip Mall on 25A. It's a median to slow traffic down. When traffic slows down, drivers can safely turn off the road to patronize the stores. And let's not forget there's no traffic light between Chestnut and the wonderful 25A/347 merge. So traffic zips along and pedestrians take it upon themselves to cross 25A anywhere and wait in the middle turning lane. What a disaster!

I'm new to Suffolk, live in Mt.Sinai. Used to fast food every couple of blocks in Nassau. We've gotta drive 15-20 minutes for "fast" food? What's fast about it lol? No Castle, no BK. I say bring a Chik Fil A in here and we're golden!!
Danielle Costags October 25, 2012 at 06:54 PM
Is a burger King going there now? They have been working on the building.
Ryan Mahoney November 11, 2012 at 05:08 PM
That would be funny actually. Before it was a White Castle, it was a Burger King / Long John Silvers
