Would You Support a Target in Rocky Point?

Developers pushing for a Target in Rocky Point, but sites still not zoned for use.

The developers for the owner of the vacant Drive-In/Driving Range on 25A in Rocky Point held an information session at Majestic Gardens Monday for proposed development of a Target store.

Three long tables were set up with drawings and schematics along with economic data on the proposed development of a Target in that location. At the informal gathering, interested community members came by and a group against the Target called Dont Target Rocky Point picketed outside and made themselves seen and heard.

The Town of Brookhaven recently won its litigation to keep the zoning of the property to retain its recreational zoning, and . The current zoning does not allow big box stores at the site, but the developers are still pushing for a change in zone despite the loss in the courtroom.

Did you know that the average school teacher is only paying 15% of theRead More actual cost of health care premiums for themselves and their families, when Medical healthcare insurance premiums are rising at an alarming 17% per annum? Do you realize that teachers are paid an additional stipend if they work more than 3 consecutive periods in a day? Are you aware that teacher pensions were protected during the stock market crash of 2008, when the average person's 401K was totally at risk? Perhaps if teachers realized how good they have it - look at the BIG picture and outside of their bubble - then they would complain less. Oh and yes, we need our loftily-paid Administrators to kick in some of the salaries, to help pay for stuff. Hard to believe the school districts' mantras that "it's all for the kids".
