13 Nonprofits Collecting Holiday Donations

Where to help out this holiday season.

It's the holidays, a time to celebrate life and help out the less fortunate. Here's a list of nonprofits that are accepting donations.

The North Shore Youth Council supports youths and families with programs such as child care and big buddy/little buddy. Donations may be made on their web site.

The Knights of Columbus is a visible organization in the community that helps out through blood drives and other programs.

The Miller Place-Mt. Sinai Historical Society and Rocky Point Historical Society are nonprofits that protect the knowledge of the region. Donations may be made in the form of membership.

Whether you see them during football games or just walking down the street, the Salvation Army's red kettles are ubiquitous this time of year. If you can find one, they have a family store in Patchogue and accept monetary donations online.

Goodwill collects clothing and other goods year round. The nearest center is in Centereach.

Save-A-Pet is always looking for donors to keep the shelter operating. They have many holiday programs, including pictures with Santa, to raise funds at the end of the year.

Religious institutions do plenty to help out those in need in the area. St. Anthony of Padua, Parish Resource Center of Long Island, St. Louis De Montfort RC Church, Sound Beach Community Church, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Temple Isaiah are local religious houses that may appreciate donations to help out the less fortunate.
