Are You For or Against the Rocky Point Capital Projects Referendum?

District vote Monday regarding multiple projects.

Rocky Point School District members will vote today on a proposal for including a synthetic turf field and track and instructional lab reconstruction.

The estimated project costs include $1,010,000 for the replacement of the grass field with synthetic turf, $680,000 for the reconstruction of the existing track and $300,000 for the reconstruction of instructional laboratories. The projects would be submitted for building aid reimbursement from NYS at approximately 70 percent of the actual project costs. Reimbursement could potentially reduce the net cost to $597,000, and the projects would not increase taxes.

The projects has been a topic of much discussion over the past few months, with many for and against. Voting is being held Monday until 8 p.m. at Rocky Point High School.

Patch wants to know, are you for or against this referendum. Tell us why you think the district should or should not move ahead with these projects. Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Personally I think that they should reconsider the building itself. The bathrooms need totally facelifts. There are nonfunctional toilets, stall doors missing locks, doors that don't close, and stalls that are ready to collapse. The new track and field and labs would be nice but they should take care of the plumbing issue at hand first.
