Councilwoman Bonner Honors Volunteers, Will Host Tax Grievance Seminar

Councilwoman Jane Bonner recently honored volunteers at the Rose Caracappa Senior Center in Mount Sinai, where she will soon hold a grievance seminar.

Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner was recently at the Rose Caracappa Senior Center to recognize volunteers, and she will return shortly to hold a tax grievance seminar.

Bonner recognized 28 volunteers at Town of Brookhaven’s Department of Housing and Human Service’s Volunteer Recognition Awards Luncheon, all of whom dedicate their time at the senior center where the Councilwoman has planned a property tax grievance seminar for April 26.

In conjunction with the Town’s Tax Assessor James Ryan, the seminar aims to help residents learn how to grieve their property tax assessment. It will start at 7 p.m.

“So many property owners are over assessed and they don’t even know it,”  she said. “This seminar will help people understand the process so they can successfully grieve their taxes and keep more of their own money. That’s important in these tough economic times.”

The senior center has housed seminars by the Councilwoman in the past, and has also been the location of other community forums hosted by the Town. The center was also recently named as one of the locations to purchase new Brookhaven Town .
