The Miller Place-Mount Sinai Historical Society Country Fair at the has been running for more than 30 years, but this year the society may not be able to fund it.
The historical society sent out letters to members warning that the Country Fair is in danger of being cut if they do not raise $2,500 by June 30. This is the first year they will not be receiving a grant from the Suffolk County Parks Department, and they can not fund the fair alone.
Society Treasurer Gerard Mannarino told the Village Beacon Record that after seven years, the $5,000 grant will not be given because of the County's financial woes, which the society is suffering from as well.
We have come upon hard times," Mannarino told the Village Beacon Record. "We have no money coming in right now and there is no place to cut expenses. People have to know the state of the Society. It's critical."
They are asking for the support of neighbors, friends and members to send donations of any kind to the Country Fair Drive before June 30 in order to save the fair.
Donations can be sent to the Miller Place-Mount Sinai Historical Society, PO Box 651, Miller Place N.Y., 11764.
