UPDATE: Live Results - Councilwoman Bonner Wins GOP Primary

Bonner defeats Ray Negron with close to 70 percent of the vote.

With 49 of 50 districts reporting, incumbent Jane Bonner (C/R, Rocky Point) has defeated Ray Negron (R, Mt. Sinai) with over 68 percent of the vote, grabbing a 1,251-565 lead with just one district left to report.

Councilwoman Bonner was happy with the results in her second straight GOP Primary victory in the Town of Brookhaven 2nd Council District race.

"I go to work tomorrow like I have been everyday and continue the people’s business," Bonner said. "I’m humbled by the confidence the voters have placed in me to represent them."

Negron, the first-time challenger and former prosecutor in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, garnered 31 percent of the vote with one district left to report.

Bonner now looks forward to continuing work and campaigning for the November election where she'll square off against Marie Berkoski (D).

"I love getting out and meeting new people," Bonner said. "I’ve been running for office since I was elected to office. When you are an elected representative you are effectively campaigning all the time, in a good way though."

Polls closed at 9 p.m. Tuesday.

"I think the voters tonight spoke with the confidence that they have placed in me by overwhelmingly supporting me," Bonner said.
