How did you get started in music?

Find out what's happening in Miller Place-Rocky Pointwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

I was always interested in music from a young age, in particular the composing aspect. While I always sang in school, I knew if I wanted to write songs I would have to learn an instrument, so I started taking piano lessons around age 12. Throughout high school I used every avenue I could to get experience in being a performer, frequently singing in musicals, high school chorus and even being their piano accompanist in several concerts. After high school I attended the University of Miami School of Music, which is when I really found my voice as a songwriter, performing in bands and picking up guitar as well.

Who are your musical influences?
I like all kinds of music and you can hear elements of many styles in my songs - everything from pop and country to rock, blues and jazz. Certain bands and singer-songwriters have definitely influenced my sound though: Sheryl Crow, Pete Yorn, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Nirvana and the Rolling Stones.

What are your goals for your music career?
To continue what I'm doing locally is a goal in itself, as being an independent musician is such a self-funded, self-sustaining business that requires a lot of organization and discipline. Regionally my goals would be to continue to grow my fan base, playing bigger venues and festivals. Nationally I'd like to continue to get airplay and license my songs to TV, film and other broadcast outlets.
