From Kings Park Patch: Locals React to Kings Park Smokestack Demo. In the blink of an eye, the smokestack of the hundred-year-old historic Kings Park Psychiatric Center Power Plant was demolished by a dynamite implosion. Even though the implosion occurred on time at 2 p.m., the warning horns couldn't be heard clearly in the viewing area 1,000 feet away, surprising many onlookers when the implosion occurred. From Commack Patch: Commack Cinemas Demolished. Commack Multiplex Cinemas is now just a memory as slabs of concrete and piles of rubble lay where the theater stood for 30 years. A Lowe’s Home Improvement store will move into the location. Click here to read more.
From Three Village Patch: Car Careens Into Setauket Harbor; Driver Uninjured. A driver lost control of his vehicle at the curve on Shore Road in Setauket on Wednesday afternoon, jumping the curb and landing in Setauket Harbor at 12:32 p.m. According to Suffolk police, the driver was uninjured. Suffolk County police responded and towed the vehicle out of the water; the Brookhaven Town harbormaster also responded to the scene.
From Port Jefferson Patch: Port Jefferson, Comsewogue School Districts Recognized for Music Education. Port Jefferson and Comsewogue are among 307 school districts from across the country to be designated as a winner in the "Best Communities for Music Education" program sponsored by the NAMM Foundation.
