Stony Brook University's plan to hold classes on religious holidays has caught the attention of Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, who on Tuesday blasted the move by the state university, calling it an "attack on people who aren't doing anything."

Port Jefferson

Port Jefferson village trustees voted to approve a tax levy increase above the 2 percent cap mandated by the state on Monday night. The proposed increase is estimated to be about 6.3 percent as discussed in the public board meeting on March 5.

Smithtown

Smith Haven Mall will soon be home to three new shops: Sur La Table is set to open in the mall's Lifestyle Village, and Fossil and Teavana will open at its center court.

A spokeswoman for the mall confirmed Tuesday that the three stores are on the way, although no set opening dates have been announced.

Production crews came to Riverhead on Monday to shoot the Coen brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis, a production in the works by the famed director/producers who have put out classic films such as Fargo, The Big Lebowski, and most recently a remake of True Grit.

A postal worker was injured on Monday at around 1 p.m. when a 94-year-old man accidentaly hit the gas instead of the breaks, driving his car up a curb and then slamming into the side of the  on Traveler Street.
