Nominate Miller Place-Rocky Point's Greatest Person of 2012

Who in town has made the biggest impact on the community?

Maybe it's a parent, a teacher, a scout leader, a coach. Maybe it's an elected official, a civic association leader, a school board trustee, a village mayor, or other community leader.

In the Miller Place-Rocky Point community there are undoubtedly plenty of people across town to look up to, and we'd like to recognize those people by asking you to nominate them for our "Greatest Person" honor.

In the coming weeks we'll accept your nominations to name Miller Place-Rocky Point's Greatest Person. Community members will later have the chance to vote on the final result.

Submit your nominations as a comment below or email editor Rich Arleo, rich.arleo@patch.com, to participate. Please include your full name and the reason why you have chosen the person your are nominating.

The individual named Greatest Person will be featured in an upcoming Patch story.

I nominate Joe Cognitore, Commander of the Rocky Point VFW. He has done a great deal to help veteran's groups, as well as local groups. He is always available to offer the VFW Hall to accommodate community groups for their activities. He has joined with the LI Home Builders Corp to provide homes for wounded veterans and their families. He helped create the Wounded Warriors Annual Golf Outing to raise money for soldiers who are experiencing hardships at home. He worked on creating the Diamond in the Pines 9/11 Memorial in Coram and the German Shepherd Bronze Statue to honor the nations' service dogs. He has helped the local Historical Society on the creation of the Civil War Memorial at Depot Park in Rocky Point. He supports the annual scholarships to Rocky Point High School seniors and contributes to the Shoreham Wading River HS Sgt. J. Keller Memorial Scholarship, he supports local girl and boy scout troops, NS Youth Council events, the annual summer concert series, he has opened the VFW Hall to community organizations such as the civic, the Historical Society, local flea markets and fund raisers and holiday parties. He is involved in the annual Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Pearl Harbor Day and the St Patrick's Day Parades. The community owes him a debt of gratitude for all he has done for the country, and to the Rocky Point community.

I would like to nominate Mr. Matthew "Matt" Clark, Principal of the North Country Road Middle School in Miller Place. Matt brings outstanding leadership abilities, compassion, honesty, and trust to his position. With a child currently in NCRS, I know first hand that Matt instills all these special qualities in ALL of our children. Each and every day, Matt teaches a lifelong love of learning which is witnessed by many a returning student as they share their love of learning the professions in college or life in general. Matt's love of community does not end there, he has coached CYO basketball at St. Anthony's in Rocky Point and has overseen many community projects to help those less fortunate..... MR. MATTHEW CLARK IS COMMUNITY!! Join me in nominating... MR. MATTHEW CLARK for MILLER PLACE-ROCKY POINT GREATEST PERSON OF 2012 !!
