Jennifer Maertz, D-Rocky Point, announced her candidacy Tuesday for the First Senate District, to run against incumbent Ken Lavalle, R- Port Jefferson. It will be her second race against Lavalle, the first coming in 2010.

With two successful restaurants already in St. James, chef and restaurant owner Eric Lomando has opened his third restaurant, Orto in Miller Place. Serving Rustic Italian cuisine, the restaurant takes over for Brian Scotts on North Country Road.
